Youth is a symbol of vitality, containing wisdom, bravery, and willpower. With these qualities, we possess the courage to overcome cowardice and the boldness to take risks. Youth fills us with anticipation for the future, encourages us to face everything head-on, and allows us to fully enjoy the thrill of life's race.
As the saying goes, the word 'youth' is crucial. It is the sky at fifteen, the flower season at sixteen, the colorful spectrum at seventeen, and a beautiful arrangement of flowers and sunshine……
However, reality is often less ideal. We are constantly surrounded by piles of unfinished homework. A moment of negligence can lead to poor exam results. What follows is not only scolding from parents and teachers but also forced enrollment in math, Chinese, and biology tutoring classes. Faced with all this, we often have to accept it silently. Elders often say that since parents worked hard to raise us, we should repay them with excellent academic performance. This perspective often overlooks our own stress and fatigue. Since birth, we have been placed under immense pressure, leaving us physically and mentally exhausted.
Some parents focus solely on their children's grades, forgetting to teach the most important lesson: the ability to live independently. Many children have never done housework, not because they are lazy or unwilling, but because every time they try, their parents say, "Just focus on your studies; you don't need to worry about housework." This over-protection leads to a lack of independence when these children move into school dormitories. I have a friend who fits this description. She often appears disheveled and, unable to wash her clothes properly, brings a pile of dirty laundry home every weekend for her mother to wash. Meanwhile, her academic ranking remains stagnant around 100th place.
In contrast, American children generally have stronger self-care abilities. In their educational system, regardless of gender, once they turn eighteen, their parents cut off all financial support, forcing them to live independently and strive on their own. In China, parents often continue to spoil and support their children well into adulthood, delaying their entry into society and weakening their self-reliance. This is not true love, but rather a hindrance to growth.
Because we have youth, we stand on a new starting line every day, ready to face new challenges; because we have youth, we can freely chase our dreams and work hard to attain them; because we have youth, we are not afraid of failure and believe that we can always start over. Everyone has their own youth, and our youth should be defined and mastered by ourselves!
