I knelt by the wall, with rice grains still on my face, hearing my mother roar behind me like a lion: “If you don’t have the head for it, don’t wear the hat!” I was stunned (I lost my motorcycle, not a hat!), and then heard her roar even louder: “If you hadn’t modified that motorcycle or been so flashy, why would he steal yours when there are so many other bikes on the street?”
It was a night when my ears were ringing and my legs ached. I stared at the white walls. This was the house my parents had worked so hard to buy for themselves. I knew that after taking on a mortgage, it was already very difficult for them to force themselves to buy that car for me, yet I had spent so much money modifying it… I gazed at the grayish-white walls, feeling as if they were covered with my regrets…
I thought I had understood this lesson when I was very young. As a child who was proud of my leg elasticity and loved jumping to grab things, I was scolded by my mother countless times before I finally learned: do not use the jumping method to grab things.
It was only then that I truly understood…
Ever since, I have always kept that lesson in mind.
The best way to move forward in life is to be grounded. Do not be greedy for speed or gain. Do not use the jumping method to forcibly seize what is beyond your reach.
