What is life? Why do we live? What is the meaning of our existence? Life is like fireworks in the night sky—beautiful yet fleeting. We live to face setbacks and to experience the joy that is brief yet eternal. The meaning of life lies in the wisdom we derive from the most bitter or sweetest moments of our lives.
Courage is the sunlight of life; hope is the sunlight of life; love is the sunlight of life. When facing setbacks and suffering, people often wish to rely on miracles. But when miracles no longer come, how should we respond? Some flee because they no longer wish to face reality; others hide because they cannot bear the look of disdain from others; some avoid the situation to escape the mockery from their peers. However, some view these challenges as trials sent by fate and face them bravely; others trust in their own courage and achieve success.
Nick was born with a rare disease that left him without limbs; he had only small flippers that assisted in his daily life. His physical disability led him to consider suicide at the age of eight. Later, however, using those same "flippers," he accomplished many things that others deemed impossible. He learned to write, type on a computer, answer the phone, throw a ball, and even swim. At the age of twenty-one, he earned a university degree and traveled the world to give speeches, spreading the message of life's resilience.
Pain and setbacks are trials bestowed upon us by fate. Do not give up or escape when you encounter difficulties. "Instead of cursing the darkness, it is better to light a candle." If miracles vanish, use your own courage, dreams, and hope to light another candle, open another window, and find another path on your own.
